Below is an article which appeared in Standard on Sunday (14/9/2008) about one of our children, Jane Mwengi who is talented at music:
Her beautiful voice and skillful tapping of the piano keys left everyone applauding long after she left the stage. That was recently when Jane Mwengi, 13, enchanted the audience at the national music festivals held in Kisumu. Her words stood out. She sang:
Sometimes I feel
Like a motherless child x2
A long way from home x2
The class seven pupil at Nyali Primary School in Mombasa, has one message: “We should not lose hope in life.” Jane started singing when she was in Class Six and she wants to make singing her profession when she grows up. She spends her leisure time reading storybooks and swimming.
Jane’s sister, Njeri Mwengi is in Class Five at the same school and they usually sing together. Jane loves music by artistes Chris Brown and Jordan Sparks. She likes Pizza. Her role model is former South African President Nelson Mandela.
